Impediment

All her life she knew nothing about being free,
she was told what to do, not allowed to disagree,
she knew nothing about the true feeling of glee,
only knew when she saw strange men she must flee,

What is a life of constantly being held back,
who allowed and gave society my life to hijack?
if wanting to be unshackled makes me a maniac,
put me in a straightjacket, but can you dye it black?

"You'll never attract a man if you're always sarcastic"
oh, that's great! I would honestly rather eat plastic,
I find my independence from all of you quite fantastic,
I don't need a man in my life, they're all bombastic,

All my life I have been ruthlessly criticized,
for breaking away from the mentalities I despised,
but the idea of complete freedom has me hypnotised,
yet for wanting my basic rights I am chastised,

Don't blame me for having a different belief,
you blame the victim instead of punishing the thief,
and all women know is a constant state of grief,
never knowing freedom, never a moment of relief,

"A feminist is a witch who should be set on fire"
"A women should not have a single desire"
Those are things men have said to me as satire,
Those are examples of why the situation is dire.
