Daydream

You will often find me stuck in a daydream,
At times I’m a superhero bringing down a regime,
Other times I’m a kid again enjoying an ice cream,
Because our world seems to be tearing at the seam,

I quite enjoy being stuck in my head at times,
Coming up with poetry and matching rhymes,
Thinking about vigilantes fighting different crimes,
Solving mysteries and reading between the lines,

It really feels like we have all been hexed,
Cursed to always worry about what’s next,
With terrible news constantly leaving us vexed,
Wondering if what we’re told is the truth or a pretext,

Daydreaming is a relief from always being aware,
Hearing about a bombing and wondering where
What innocents fell victim to vicious warfare,
Who else to add to our “thoughts and prayers”

So let me daydream for a bit every once in a while,
To get my mind off of wars and crimes so vile,
And the stress of not being enough, faking a smile,
Pretending like world leaders and their rank and file,
Are totally not serving agendas and acting juvenile…
