She goes through life just wondering,
If she’d ever not feel like she’s suffering,
Drawing scissor lines all over her skin,
Mapping out where she wants to be thin,
Masking her pain with well-planned jokes,
But underneath it all, it was all just a hoax,
Because if she was to ever speak or whine,
Then she would end up being the punchline,
“You’re always hungry” and “just stop eating”
Heart-rending words that seem only fleeting,
But they plant seeds of insecurity in her head,
Until all she really wants is to just be dead,
So she stops having fun and slowly fades away,
Loses her happiness and puts on a fake display,
But they congratulate her for finally losing weight,
“You’re kinda pretty now, you must feel so great!”
Unaware that she had been starving herself,
Feeling like a forgotten broken toy on a shelf,
She looks in the mirror but only sees flaws,
Wishing life would go back to how it was,
Before people pointed imperfections out,
Before their words planted all of that doubt,
Before she learned her feelings didn’t matter,
Before her faith in loved ones went on to shatter,
So be careful the next time you say “ugly” or “fat”
Be mindful of the weight of the words you spat,
Cause words like that can cut deeper than a knife,
And they could be the reason a person ends their life.
